Basel Christmas Market

I found that Christmas markets are more a celebration of the local culture + servings of molten cheese on warm crusty bread and the inevitable Glühwein. I remark on this because in the Philippines (where I am originally from), Christmas markets or “bazaars” as we call it is a place where you can / should buy presents for everyone you know.

Back to Basel. My third year visiting the Christmas market and I am still fascinated by the products from about 180 traders. You can find everything from artisanal sauces to handmade leather products. I love looking into the chalet for Christmas Village decoration… wondering if this is the year I buy one of those nicely decorated snow-capped buildings.

This year I enjoyed the kartoffelpuffer (like a pumped up hashbrown) and wood-grilled salmon sandwich + prosecco. Apparently that is how they do street-food. I like the way they roll.
